that is scary. I have done driveline work in the driveway without chocking the wheels. This is something that I will defiantly take into consideration next time. Thanks for posting this for all to see. I learn something new everyday on this forum

Some of you guys that have been on 3 years or more may remember I rolled my truck off a lift doing the same thing. Luckily I only suffered a broken fuel tank, right fender, and dented driveshaft and muffler. At least I was lucky enough to walk away with a few stitches. Now if I don't have all 6 wheels firmly on the ground I chock as many wheels as I can!

Man, I got that pit-of-the-stomach sinking feeling as soon as I saw the title of the thread.

With or without surgery, I sure hope it works out well for you. These 8K lb trucks are nothing to mess with and you always have to think SAFETY.

Best to you and a speedy recovery Pete!

Wow, that hurt just reading it!! Our prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. I actually did a similar thing a few years ago, but the pickup couldn't go more than about two feet (thanks to the garage door). Didn't break anything, but had to buy a new panel for the garage door!! Never thought the floor was sloped enough to roll, but when it did it was like everything was happening in slow motion.

OUCH! Glad you're mostly alright. Thanks for the story.
I try to always use my BIG TRUCK black rubber chocks. I know I'll think about you next time I get under my truck.
Prayers to ya for a quick/full recovery.

Pete, so sorry that happened.
There is no more helpless feeling than knowing that whatever you just screwed up is gonna hurt.

I have a story about a fat man(me) and some Christmas lights that absolutley had to be hung on a night when it was 33* and misting. Well lets just say that I had an epiphany at 30 something feet altitude, with the wife working late, and me being home alone with a 3 year old and a 6year old who had not completley grasped the intricacies of the telecommunications system...... Ever since that year my neighbor and I have split the rental fee of a cherry picker for the last weekend in Nov.

If I can do anything, with the exception of hanging external holiday illuminations, just let me know.

Pete, sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident. Look on the bright side as it could have been worse. Take care of that leg.
Sometime it takes something like this to jog us back into the safety mode.

Wow Pete. Glad it wasn't worse. Prayers for your full recovery.

I kind of did the same thing with my old cherokee. Kneeling at the drivers door to replace the panel under the steering column. Stupidly moved the gear shifter to make more room and the thing rolled backwards down the driveway. Ducked under the door but the front wheel ran over both feet and then took out the mailbox. If it had been my superduty, both feet would have been crushed.

Good Luck!!

Pete, our prayers are with you!
When I have to jack up the rear of my truck, I always lock in the hubs and slip the transfer case in 4x4 if chocks aren't handy.
I would have never sent them had I known this would have happened.

Pete, as I was reading your post, I kept waiting to read that, this could happen if you don't chok the wheels. Sorry it did happen. That had to hurt. I wish you the best and get healed up fast.
