im 18 and my father gave me his 1968 f250 highboy. 4x4, detroit lockers, 390.I just had the carburator rebuilt and will run once put back on. The truck has sat a couple of years and rusted a little but nothing that cant be sanded out. It has a busted rear axle(dana 60) and a cracked exhaust manifold but planning to replace with headers. I have all the original ford emblems and chrome siding.Everything on this truck is original and planning to paint back the orinal blue and white. I am considering to sell but not set on a price. I know this truck is worth alot but just wanted to know if what i have is worth putting the money into?
Remember, the truck is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Out west here, those can be picked up in the $1000 dollar range and sometimes even less. Other places, you may get double that or more. It's certainly worth putting money into but it's not a rare truck by any means, all 67 to early 77 F250 4X4's were "highboys". The more money you put into it, the harder it becomes to get your money back out. Good luck.
Reality check StephenJones...these trucks are not worth "a lot". I paid $600 for my crewcab. The rule of thumb up here is you pay at most half of regular retail. So you paid $400 for those headers installed? I'll give you $150-200. Those brand new never been driven on tires cost you $800 for 4? I'll give you $300-400 for the set. And labour prices don't even enter into the equation. I don't care if you paid $300 to have that carb rebuilt because I can pick up a decent one from pick a part for $10 if I know what I'm looking for. In his economy I really doubt that you'd get anywhere close to what you put into it. Don't mean to s*@# on your parade but my local kijiji has over 2000 classic vehicles for sale and 90% of them are not going to sell anytime soon. It is a buyers market out there not a sellers. I just paid $100 for a 1967 F250 flareside in decent shape just to turn it into a trailer!!
$100 is a good price for a trailer.............but as you said, they can be found cheap. I paid $300 a couple of months ago for a 1970 Ranger XLT, straight as could be, 360 with C-6, new custom dual exhaust system, 4 brand new LT 245x75x16 load range E tires, with less than 150 miles on them. Truck has great working Mark IV aftermarket A/C, Seat looks like never set in and carpet is the same way. Truck's problem, most of the paint is faded away and it is now a nice brown color rust on top, hood, and most everywhere else. Drives great, good oil pressure, etc. but is a Rust Bucket. Why did I buy it? I will take out the A/C, install it into my 70 CS with the Stroker 514 and sell the truck running as it is but without the A/C. Probably get back a few more bucks than I paid for it...... And, I will have an easy to install A/C in my Street Truck..... Yep, I think this will change in the spring though......We'll see, but I think prices will go back up here in the Mountain West area, (Utah).
Dittos on whet the others said, it'll cost you more for repairs than the truck is worth. Don't mis interpret worth & worth to you either. Just because it is/was your daddy's or granddaddy's truck don't mean squat to buyers.

It may be worth a lot to you, but from your description, if you could get a grand for it...I'd be surprised.
Here in SoCal, we have zero rust issues. While 1961/79 trucks are a dime a dozen here, buyers for these trucks are not.
Most ppl around here are not interested in trucks, would rather restore Mustangs, Fairlanes, and other cars.
I've seen trucks like yours in original running condition go wanting for less than a grand.
Restoration costs: People ALWAYS under-estimate what the cost factors are.
Rule of thumb: Whatever you figure the total costs will be...to restore it to what it resembled...when it was brand new, DOUBLE the figure then add 20%.
And...you'll prolly spend much more than that figure when the final costs are added up.
A vehicle is only original once, when it left the factory. No matter how much money you spend on it...it will never be original again.
10 XX on all the above I just picked up a 77 Highboy new Cepek 40's
New rims, new Hooker headers, New complete rebuilt engine & trans all new brake lines, completly sandblasted & painted over $7500 in receipts. The guy let me have it for 1/2 of what the tires cost. $1800
( I admit it was one of my better deals tho)
All in all deals are there totally a buyers market when they see a plile of Hundies coming there way...
Unless your planning on keeping the truck long term, don't sink too much into it. I am frame off restoring my 67, but I plan on keeping this truck for the long haul, not to turn around to sell. It's worth it to me to put the time and money in to have a great truck to drive!
