shift linkage "rod "

today i was pulling our boat to go fishing and when we got to the boat landing we backed it in got the boat off, put it in gear and the truck went in reverse, made sure it was in gear, gunned it and it still rolled back like it was in neutral. so im like what the heck ( i wasnt driving at the time ) so i was like put the emergency brake on and i went in and noticed that the shifter was very loose. so i new something was busted, well to make a long story short we got towed out ( by a big ford diesel thank god ) and then called a tow truck ( thank god for my friend having AAA ) well i was talking to the tow truck guy and he said that it was probably the shift linkage rod, or sumthing to that matter. well when he dropped my truck off at my house he went under there and he shifted it into park and neutral and drive. and i drove it up and he put it in park , he had to do this under the truck.
and he said this was a fairly common problem and the part was like 20$. sorry this was along story and just let me know if u need any other info
