Another Header Thread

I will be taking a week of vacation shortly to work on the exhaust manifold studs an am looking at the options for E-bay Headers. There are two "brands" out none of which seem to have been the ones others have referenced in their threads. Of these two what is the opinion of the hive mind here? I have spent countless hours at different times reviewing all the threads on the exhaust manifold replacement and put the job off for far to long.

Thanks

They both look, essentially, like the headers I have.

I have a question for you guys running the short tube headers. What are you doing for the pipes from the headers to the cat? With the junk Y tubes in the stock pipes are you replacing the Y pipes or does someone make new pipes with a good Y pipe ?

Great questions, I suggest the spd/ebay ypipe that we stock for spd performance.

I'm about to have some manifold studs replaced and toying with the idea of changing manifolds to headers at the same time. Does anyone have any actual data as to what the headers do to the performance of the truck if the rest of the exhaust is left alone? Is the torque curve changed at all? Advantage or disadvantage?

While I'm always looking at newer trucks, I'd bet I'll keep this one for another 3-5 years.

Thanks

When I put my headers in, without changing anything else, I noticed no decrease in low-end torque, but did notice an increase in high-end power.

However, you have a 2005, so it doesn't really compare. I suspect you won't see a whole lot of increase anywhere, as your manifolds are better than my stock manifolds.

Thanks. I wondered about the 05 and up part of it.

Received my E-bay headers today. They look pretty good for $200. I will post pictures of them up this weekend along with the damage once I get everything removed and ready to start working on the studs.

Yeah please let us know how it goes. I have the SPD Y pipe from 5 Star and its awesome. I also used a Magnaflow round muffler so my next step will be headers if all goes well and you give a good report.

Thanks
Brian

Rugby3, maybe a little late info (I too have been looking at the ebay hdrs) I asked flange thickness questions to the sellers: one responded 3/8" thick while the other was 1/2" Just thought I'd put that out there, I recall someone here stateing a thicker flange.

I do remember seeing that in the one of the responses to the "broken stud" threads. Currently there are only two sellers that I saw in E-Bay. The one I went with had free shipping and was also $30 under the other price. They both "appeared" to be the same thing. I will measure mine and mention the thickness when I post some pictures up tomorrow.

Just as a side note should I just put rags or paper towel in the exhaust ports once I have the manifolds off to keep any dirt from blowing in? Or is there something better?

I would go with rags over paper towels. I would be afraid the towels would tear while trying to remove them, possibly dropping shavings back into the head. I'd also tape over the ex pipes.
