2001 F150 OBD2 Port Problem
My OBD2 port doesn't work on my 2001 F150. When I plug my Autotap into the port, the LED comes on indicating power but the software doesn't connect. I could use a wiring diagram of the OBD2 port and any idea as to what could be wrong.
Thanks,

You need a DSO to see the data on pins 2,10,7,15,6 and 14.
You only need a DVOM to see pins 4,5 and 16, but with the LED being "ON" you don't need to make that check.
What message do you get from AutoTap. Try contacting Joe Ebner at B&B. He's real good with AutoTap.

Since the LED is "ON" the cig liter fuse is OK. You can at least see data activity with a DSO. You won't know what it means, but at least you will know activity is taking place which means your network is NOT down. That only leaves a connectivity problem with your AutoTap. Try different ports on you laptop.

I used the autotap to read my wifes HHR and it worked fine. My son also used it to read his 2002 Ford F250 truck and it worked fine for him. I think that I did use the setup to read and repair my truck a couple years ago (had a trouble light for EGR) and it worked then. I looked at the wires on the port of the truck and they seem to be fine (5 wires). I hope to find a wiring diagram to trace the wires. I guess I will have to purchase a book if the Advance store doesn't have a manual for the truck. Hoped someone on here would have a diagram but no luck so far.

You can go to Alldata, Mitchell or Helm for the most complete into. You need a DSO to see network data. You can use the pinout I already gave you to do voltage checks, but your LED is "ON" so there isn't much need for that. You need to see network activity. ASEWave sells a breakout box that has LEDs on it that will show which pins have activity. You should call Joe at B&B for help. Without a DSO or breakout box you're going to have to pay the dealership to see if they can connect. For that price you can buy the breakout box.

Well I finally checked the fuse for the port (I assumed the fuse was good sense the led would lightup on the interface). What I found is no fuse at all. The fuse for the lighter and OBD2 Port had been removed to replace a blown fuse on the wipers. I moved the fuse back to its proper place and the port now works fine. Thanks for everyones help. I now have all new spark plugs and new ignition coils for the truck. I will put them in sometime this week when the mood moves me.
