Chassis Exit Headers (460)

I'm trying to find some chassis exit headers for my 75 Crew Cab 4x4 with a 460/manual tranny. Does anyone know of someone, besides L&L, that makes them?? I thought Hooker used to sell a chassis exit header for that series of truck, but I'm not finding anything on their website. Hedman, Mad Dog, and everyone else only sells Fenderwell exit. What are you guys running??

Thanks,

Just curious but why not the L&L's? They are the best built out there and have a lifetime warranty. All other headers fall short in one area or another

I don't have anything against L&L. I actually got my engine mounts through them, and they are great. I was just curious if there are any other options besides them. If there isn't, which I'm not seeing that there is, I will go through them. I'm assuming everyone has good reviews of their headers?? I noticed on their website that the chassis exit headers are shorter. Anyone have any opinions on that??

I run the fenderwell exit L&Ls on mine and I freaking love them. I wouldn't have the exhaust any other way. They say you have to do a body lift but I didn't. I had to put a slight cut in each metal inner fender then push them out a bit, you can see this a bit on the passenger side but you can't tell at all on the drivers side. Then the rest of the exaust is a piece of cake. I just bolted a 3 foot section of 3 inch pipe to the headers then bolted mufflers to that. Keeps the area between the frame rails uncluttered and keeps heat away from the transmission and transfercase.

Having to do a body lift was one of the reasons why I was shying away from using the fenderwell exit headers, but if you really don't have to have a lift, I might consider them a little more. Do you have any pics of your truck showing the headers/exhaust?? I'd like to see how your setup looks if you do.

The truck is at a freinds house getting paint but I'm either going to make it over there today or Sunday. Pics are not a problem, I'll post them as soon as I make it over there.

The body lift is not necessary. There is no body lift on my truck and as stated the only thing needing trimming was the inner fender. I trimmed mine a little more so I could get at the rear plugs easier. The body lift is suggested. They have shorty chassis exit and a longtube version along with the fender exits at Bronco Graveyard. Cheapest place I found when I got mine 2+ years ago. I think I also read something of new longtubes comming out with bigger primarys for the stroker guys. Here is a pict of mine on a bare frame

I can get you some better picts of both sides if you need them. Don't have any with the truck assembled. But I'm sure someone else does

Pass header

Driver header

And the notch in the inner fender. Like I said it is alot bigger than needed so my hand can fit in there for the plugs

I have yet to find any other company that makes chassis exit other than L&L. I bought my chassis exit ones through Broncograveyard because they were cheaper than buying directly from L&L at least according to both websites. Than I had them ceramic coated because at the first startup they turned colors.

L+L is the only way to go. The header flange is nice and thick so there is no warpage and your not replacing gaskets. Mine blued on start up, I kind of like the discoloration.

Im all about L&L's as well. Only complaint is that the finish had to be re-done. I wanted some extra bling.
I also chose chassis exit because I like the use of the x-over tube.

This might not be an issue at all, but with the tires being on the outside of the frame, do you guys ever have issues with debris from the tires affecting them. This won't be an offroad vehicle, but will be driven quite a bit as a tow vehicle so it would be 'normal' driving conditions rain/wet roads if we encounter them. Also, when you run bigger tires do you have any clearance issues when turning?? Maybe the headers don't take up as much wheel well as I think they do. BTW, the headers look really good on the trucks!!

I have the hedmans on my 79 f150 with a 400. I mud drag race with it and have only 3 1/2 inch lift up front while running 35 inch boggers and my tires have never hit the headers however when mud does get in between the tubes its not much of a problem at least it doesnt concern me. Ive looked for headers to fit a 460 and L&L seems to be the only 1s. Youd love the fender well exit, cuz the starter isnt in the way the inner fender well may need to be trimmed a little bit tho.

I never had any problems with road driving. If you look at the pict that I posted of the pass side you will see a spot where the tire did hit. Truck was stock with 33/12.5-15. But that only happened when I jumped the truck. I don't think they take as much room as you think. They hug the frame close to the cab mount.
