Well I finally experienced my first turbo surge. My cps was going out, I would stall, start, get going down the road, stall, over and over. As I got frustrated I got into it alittle more than usual and when it shifted gears I could here the unmistakable sound of the turbo surge. Just like the posted audio videos that have been on this sight. Since then I have experienced it once more with what could be concidered an average aggressive entrance to a freeway. In 80e with the DP. The question I have is, Once you get surge once, are you more likely to get it more often? I have towed a trailer, about 8k, and did not have any surge, even up steep upgrades. This was prior to ever having it though. And now three times in a week.
not really sure about your question about once you get surge do you get it more often, but you can get a cheap fix with a wicked wheel about $80 get a ported housing $400.
Mine would surge alot when pulling before I found this site and a great bunch.I was reading on here one day and someone described the same noise I had.Luckily Chris(F350-6) was willing to help me and we installed WW on mine and other things now and no more surge.The wheel sure sounds good too.

This is I guess what I was getting at. Since I am starting to notice it now is this a sign that something is starting to go bad? I have noticed that since I recently changed my cps though that my truck does seem to shift better, and obviously run better. I dont know how everything is linked but was wondering if cam shaft speed read through the cps has anything to do with shifting. I know there are speed sensors in the trans but are they all linked somehow? And if so then since she is running better, then I am actually reaching better power now and it is able to get to the point of surge?
The noise between gears is *not* surge. True surge happens when you're on the throttle trying to make power and you hear the "psst-psst-psst-psst" or "chuffa-chuffa-chuffa" sound. The noise between gears isn't exactly good for the turbo, but real surge is much worse. Be worried if you hear it under power at around 1800-2000 RPMs. That seems to to be the "sweet spot" for it.
Surge can happen to any truck at any time if the conditions are right. Could even be weather related to some degree, but as long as your intake & exhaust are in good shape (clean, un-obstucted, etc.), I wouldn't focus too much on that. Make sure your filter is clean, and your EBPV and/or wastegate are working correctly.
Joe has it covered. Getting surge once does not make you more likely to get it again. If you're feeling really smart, search for Gene's post where he described compressor stall and even compared the wicked wheel to the late model wheel. (Complete with graphs of course)

This is the sound I am hearing. It is after the trans shifts, not under alot of load I understand this, but with my foot still in it and I do get the pressure cooker noise. If I can I will try to record it and post it. It is more of the chuffa chuffa sound about four times. Sound alot like the darth vader sound but in a choppy way. Not just a clean whoosh.

Does the sound go away without lifting out of the go pedel? Or does it continue to do it until you lift?
I believe it goes away before I get a chance to let up.
If its only happening during a shift and going away quickly its not really surge. More of a shift bark. Surge only really happens if your pulling a load and in the 1700 - 2000 rpm range. Also, surge doesn't normally go away without one of these things happening. Let off the go pedel, decrease the load (hill ends, etc.), or the RPM gets over about 2000 while pulling said load.

Based on that I would wager that your not having a surge issue..
