HPOP Related Issue?

Can no or low oil pressure result in a hard start? Here is the background:

1) Front of truck was up on ramps because I was trying to locate an oil leak

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...need-help.html

2) Truck sat for two days with front of engine higher that the back of the engine.

3) Temp was 45 degrees F

4) Two 15 second cranking cycles with no start, slight catch at the end with alot of white heavy (hugging the ground) smoke. Third cycle at about 10 seconds the truck gave the PSD bark and started with no additional smoke or romps.

5) Has started fine since with no romp or indication there was an issue.

Darn gremlins ; maybe the GPR's, maybe a loose connection or maybe a loose nut behind the wheel

Sounds like GPs or GPR to me...

Mine parks uphill every night. Might have just been a fluke. If it's running/starting fine now, I wouldn't worry.

I would agree it could've been a fluke. So the HPOP reservior elevation (in relation to the rest of the engine) should not have any influence on the starting......right?

If GPs or GPR why is everything back to normal although I suppose it could be an intermitent failure and the ramps and such were just coincidences.

It's the smoke that you described in your original post that tells us it wasn't an oil issue.

But yes, you could have an intermittent GPR.

I've had this happen to me and it turned out the truck was low on oil.

Easiest thing to do is duplicate the test. Drive it up on the same ramps and wait a couple days and try to start it. That is if you haven't topped off the oil.

Interesting.....where is the oil pickup on the 7.3? The oil level is halfway into the hash area of the dipstick so low oil level should not be the issue. However, if the oil had drained to the backside of the pan and allowed the oil pickup to drain; therefore no oil in the rails ??????

However, I also agree with Pocket. Heavy white smoke at cranking is typically raw diesel so that would tell me the oil pressure was enough to function the injectors.

OK now I am officially confused
