Bad engine

I have found a 99 F350 at an auction that doesn't run with a V10. Its sitting there with no battery, most of the time that means the engine is no good. What is the average cost of a used V10, I'm trying to get an idea of what I might like to give for this truck. Can the engines be swapped easily, I've never dealt with these trucks with gas engines, I know the same year model diesel has to have the cab raised up to remove the engine, is the gasser the same way? I am looking to buy it for next to nothing and either putting a used engine in it or maybe installing a Cummins diesel in it, but I'm not sure what its worth. It is a 99 Four Door F350 two wheel drive with a 5 spd transmission and 99,000 miles on it.

Could be it was not taken care of and died and early death or it was just it's time but it's not typical to only go 99K.
I've seen take-out engines in the 1.5K-2.5K range on Ebay depending on milelage. You do not need to remove the cab to pull the engine.
