Okay here is the deal; my dream is a long bed crewcab 4X4 and I've come across 2 trucks which will get me started. Truck #1 is a short bed 4X4 crewcab F250. Truck #2 is a long bed 2X4 crewcab F350.
My question is which is easier streatching a frame or performing a 4X4 conversion ?
LOL.
I've got the same situation with the trucks I own, although I am going with standard cab F100/F150.
I started with a 2x4 long bed 73 F100, then bought a 75 4x4 short bed F150. I'm going to cut them both in the appropriate places with a big Z cut, swap ends and weld them back together. I haven't had them side by side yet to figure out where Ford lenthend the frame. Obviously behind the cab, but I guess the short answer to your question is lenthen the 4x4 like I am. I think the cuts and welds are much simpler and easier to monitor to make sure they hold up. Cutting out both crossmembers and swapping looks like tricky surgurey. Although if I ever get my blue and white truck finished I will be able to tow a trailer so I can expand my search into Nevada. Seems to be quite a few trucks for under $1500. Maybe I'll just buy a truck for it's chassis.
