I found this admonition (Below in red) while following another GPR Link. Anyone know why the Stancor 586-902 WON'T work on a Cali truck? I bought this relay several months ago and have as yet to mount it. This is the first time that I have been informed that it won't work.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Stancor Contactor (I'll call it a GPR) can be found at numerous sites on the internet but I ordered mine from Mouser Electronics (part number 802-586-902) for $44.74 (Nov-2007). This was more than twice what I had paid for my GP-109 from NAPA but if it lasts longer than that super-cheap NAPA GPR, it will be worth it. (NOTE: Jan 26, 2009 -- Still working strong at +2 F this morning)
NOTE: If you have a California emissions truck or Excursion, you will have a Glow Plug Control Module under your hood, not a GPR. Check before ordering one because this mod will not work for you.
That warning should only be for 99 and up trucks as they do have a solid state module that controls the GP's. You should have a regular relay and should have no issue with the stancor
Well I gave up for the moment trying to get it to work without throwing codes. I've been thinking about making a shunt that will fit around that monster and try it again. The relay works fine of course but the PCM doesn't like not having the shunt.
