oversize or not

When I had my motor built the guy who did the work said it was bored
out .40000 already so not to worry about boreing.
Now I here that some of the pistons were stamped .40000
It is an 80 model 302
Runs great plenty of power
He said the pistons were stamped
Just wondering

Wondering what?

The overbore you are talking about would be .040. .4000 is 4/10s of an inch, almost half an inch.

Oversize pistons are almost always stamped with the oversize.

Was this engine .040 over BEFORE he rebuilt it? And he put it together on the old bore? That may be ok, or, you might be in for high oil consumption.
