gpr-109 "controller"

So I am finding myself in a new country (Canada) and in need of a GPR replacement. I must never have noticed it was out in Sunny SoCal.

While I try and track down a source of the Stancor 586-902, I thought it not unreasonable to throw ~$20 bucks at a NAPA GPR-109.

I found a local NAPA, and asked about availability and he said something to the effect he can get "that controller in tomorrow".

I tried to clarify I was after a relay, and wasn't sure what he meant by a controller. He said that was what the GPR-109 came back as for him and the conversation pretty much ended. He said it was going to be about $35 CAN ($32 US).

Has anyone heard of the relay being referred to as a controller?

Since I am a new customer, I doubt they would be happy about ordering it only for me to see it and potentially snub it.

PS anyone in the Ottawa area with favorite (favourite) stores, let me know and I will give them a try.

It started life in Georgia I think, then moved to Wyoming, before Cal.

I don't see the shunt in place, just two heavyish gauge wires that head to the GP connectors.

I don't know if you've had a chance to read this thread, but I just ordered up a Stancor 586-902 for $47+ shipping from Mouser Electronics this weekend. Here's a link that has a a great write-up on the install.

As far as the relays being called a controller, that's the term I've heard, too. My guess is they call it a "controller" so they can justify charging a small fortune for a simple relay.
