94 f-150 with an AOT trans?

I was trying to change the transmission filter and gasket tonight. Went to my work (AutoZone) and picked up the E4OD trans kit. Figured that is what I had as my past f-150s had them all. Get home drop the pan... not so much. Went back to the zone and looked up the other trans listings under 94... None of them looked like the one I had. Went back to a 93 to see if AOD trans was it. AOD wasn't an option AOT was. So my question, is an AOT the same as AOD? Also the gasket was right but the filter was way off! I know there was a shallow/deep pan option but the filters weren't even close! Any ideas? Why does a 94 have a 93 trans? I just bought the truck and know nothing about the prior history.

AOT? No such thing.

AOD ended in '93.

AODE maybe in an F150

4R70W in an F150 also.

Checky this out:

Ford Transmission Spotter's Guide .: Articles

This is under the "Articles/Specs" heading at the top of the page.

Good luck.

Door Code is "U". So looks like the 4R70W? If you go to AutoZone's website, there is a listing under 93 f150 5.0 for AOT...

Is the 4R70W a good transmission? Compared to the E4OD?

I have seen the AOT listed before. I don't know what it means, since I don't think it is a name that Ford ever used. I have the trans code U which is 4R70W. I have had issues getting the wrong filter before.

4R70W good trans, as good as any.

AOT = Automatic Overdrive Transmission, a non-Ford term.

AOD = Automatic OverDrive transmission, a Ford term.

Either term could be generic, but Ford did use AOD. Some of the other designations at least add the "E" or a number than can be decoded to the torque rating.

The AOD, AODE and 4R70W are similar, kind of an evolving line of transmissions. Thus, those who want to run a beefed AOD use parts from the later two transmissions.

AOT = Automatic Overdrive Transmission? Maybe just generally label for the AODE or 4R70W?

just a thought: stay away from autozone and their 'knowledge' base.
