I don't know how usual this problem is but it has become quite an inconvenience. I replaced my ignition switch to avoid having to use a screwdriver like the PO did. It starts fine but will not shut off! I pulled the fuel relay fuse to kill it but this leaves the truck in the run position. So now I have to connect the battery to start it and then pull the fuel relay fuse and disconnect the battery to shut it off. This is becoming a major pain. I know that the problem lies in a spring not being engaged inside the steering column however I don't really want to tear into that. Is there a killswitch I could rig up that would shut the truck off and kill the battery? And then reengage it to start it? Its not used very much and I don't have a much time to work on ti. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
the electrical ignition switch on the column needs adjusting or replacing. they are slotted from the factory to allow for wear in the linkage and such.
welcome to FTE.
there is a small piece in the column called the ignition actuator. it connects the key cylinder to the ignition switch. it is broken. $13 dollar item from the dealer, and around 3-4 hours to install.

You could try that. The ign switch is under the dash bolted to the steering column. Just loosen the two screws and slide the switch along to see if that helps.
Plan B is to remove the switch from the column (under the dash) and work it manually.
