I have a 74 f250 with a power steering, the problem I am having is that the steering wheel while driving has about a 1/4 turn of play before it corrects. I changed out to steering column were it leaves the cab and connects to the steering box. And I tried to weld the slip joint and change out that rubber piece with the two bolts at the steering box with a metal piece. Temporary fix but I need to know that correct way that may be low budget. Will a 2wd column work on a 4wd truck? Let me know what you think.
Chances are that it is not your column. You have a worn box and perhaps a worn or faulty hydraulic assist system.
Have you tried to adjust the steering box?
