What about buying a low mileage (always a pig in a poke) engine from eBay, then bench testing it (compression test, a quick oil sample and analysis tells lots of tales), and then, if it looks good....
You might do a top end rebuild anyways... replace all sensors, switches that are known trouble, etc.
Most likely if the screen happened to catch it (not likely) then that's where it's at. Other wise it's gone into the IPR and HPOP. I'm no expert, but your motor may have suffered the same kind of failure that this one did as far as where the plastic went.
Thats what im afraid of. the truck died on its own so i think the filter clogged causing the hpop to starve killing the engine. im going to get it home and pull the oil cooler and check the screen. it amazes me that the engine got that hot and still ran.

Then roll the dice?
i taught about that but if injectors or hpop is bad im better off buying a autozone warranted used engine for 6000

I don't know how the AutoZone/Oreilly's are in your neck of the woods...about around here they employ idiots as far as turning wrenches go. If it ain't in the computer, it didn't exist (I could start a rant about my Ranchero & 351C, but I won't). I don't do business with AutoZone/Advance/Oreilly's unless I'm in a bind; but that's just me. Someone posted Everdrive.com carries a three year warranty on their engines. I surfed over the and they do have six or seven 6.0L listed with 3 yr warrenty...for about $2k less that what Ford wants for a new one with 2 yr unlimited mileage. What Everdrive has listed are long blocks....valve covers to oil pan...no wiring harness/hoses. I'm in no way affiliated with either Everdrive.com or Ford...well outside my truck. Just some thoughts....
I know this is a powerstroke forum but if it was me i would find me a mechanical 5.9 cummins and buy the computer to control the torque shift. You can find them old dodge trucks with diesel engines pretty cheap. Just a thought.
you basicly will need all new brgs and and turbocharger, coolers, then you get to find out if you cracked a cyclinder block.
Imo get an engine.
also keep in mind temp had to go past 350 degress to melt that
everdrive is the engine they carry and i get a family discount.
i used one of the everdrive engines a month ago.it showed up with a crushed oil pan and the turbo charge tubes were crushed.the good thing is u get to keep your core.
Im yanking this thing apart and going threw it piece by piece. im loosing no water so if there is a crack its not nothing large enough to show. ill see when the heads come off. I was a ASE master and went to NADC i feel confident i can clean this thing out. Thanks for the info ill take pics and post them.
Pray for me.
I feel this is the right thing to do but heck if it is unrepairable they don't want a core so no harm no fowl.
