7.3 locked up

I got a 7.3 non turbo that was installed in an 86 f350. The truck had been parked for 10 years when I got it. Upon inspection the engine had no oil in it and no water in the radiator. It was running when it was parked. It was parked because some wiring had melted and the previous owner was scared to drive it anymore. I found that the wires that feed the glow plugs (the 2 10 gage wires) had melted. My question is , is there any hope for this engine or is it possible to bring it back from the dead. Thanks

how is it that the oil escaped ?

did the pan rust out or something ?

if it were me .. i'd take out the injectors and fill each hole with a mixture of mmo and diesel oil ..

find out where the oil hole is and plug it ..

then fill the crancase with diesel and motor oil as much as you dare ..

and let it soak a week ..

then drain the oil - diesel mix in the pan out ... and do oil + filter change ..

then crank the motor over with the injectors out still letting the oil fly out the holes ..

some plastic and cardboard would be appropriate to keep the splash down ..

run 2 real hot batteries and a charger on boost mode .. hopefully the starters' fast still .

crank 10 seconds .. wait 5 minutes .. repeat 10x .. letting the charger get the batts back up between sessions ..

then reinstall the injectors .. you'll need new copper washers ..

also be sure to use a new fuel filter ..

since the glop lug wires burned you can probably guess they are swolen and not worth removing at this time .. they would almost certainly break off and require head removal ..

just completly discard the GP wiring and start with starting fluid ..

after starting and running let it run maybe 5 -10 min until the oil is starting to get good and warm but not hot ..

then drain the oil and filter again ..

now you can run it for 500 miles or so if you want but do another oil change sooner than later ..

it'll probably run if it was okay when parked .. just gotta get it off to a good start ..

it will not be 100% .. where the rings sat it will have rusted and there will be some wear at the walls and rings from getting it moving again .. but it should be okay and run fine .. lets' say it added 75k miles to the odo ..

good luck

I did put oil back in. looks like the oil plug drips, had normal level of oil in it for a couple of months now. I guess a slow drip for 10 years can drain an engine.

drain fuel tanks, spin on new filter (filled) top up oil and coolant, plug in the block heater, put your foot to the floor and hold it down crank it for thirty seconds and wait for five minuets (to cool starter) disconnect the glows and remove the air cleaner and blast the ether it will run.. then go race it up and down the road like you stole it...
