Paint bubbling/rear door

I notice while washing my truck the other day, that I have some paint kinda bubbling. It's on the rear doors ( not the rear hatch area)in the front corner on the bottom, under the rubber window trim in that curve. I also looked at my brothers 02 crew cab,his is starting to do the same thing. Is this a common problem ? And will Ford stand behind it ? Thanks

I too have an '00. I would be surprise if Ford would honor our vehicle being that it's almost a decade old. The problem I have is half of the clear coat is peeling on the rear hatch handle area (painted black). Since my truck is so tall, I rarely see the roof top, but the other day while washing it with a ladder, I noticed several of my roof area also have peeling paint (near the luggage rack), but it's not all the way through the metal....yet.

I know years back, they said the color silver would oxidize or fade and have had problems in sticking. Didn't know if color would have anything to do with it as mine is white.

Most cars/trucks have a problem area and I think it is because the robot or hand painter doesn't cover that spot well with one or more of the coats. A had a truck years ago that real thin paint down the middle of the hood because they didn't reach in far enough.

Cool Paint falling off 2000 black f250

Was washing the truck this weekend and thought the hood looked funny. What looked like hundreds of small (1/2") scratches was actually paint fractures. WTF??? The passenger door is also showing this fracturing with a couple of spots near the window opening mid door where the paint is actually falling off!!!!

This is the factory paint! Never been repainted. One owner truck.

Anyone else having this issue or am I just lucky?? pissed.

My paint cracking problem is in the rear passenger doors. The bottom front curve at the corner.

The other area is the inner bottom doors.

Not necessarily a 'factory' screw up.

The paint shop says this is an issue with new paints, heat, UV, ets. All combine to cause the primer to degrade and release. Hence, bubbles, cracking, crazing, etc. Only solution: strip and re paint.
Expensive, but truck looks great again.
BTW, happens to all companies, not just Ford.

BTW, ran it by Ford and 'sorry' was all I got!

Lightbulb Ford Paint Peeling Issues

Automotive painting is a science.

A typical finish consists of four layers:
1) electrocoat - provides corrosion protection
2) primer - protects electrocoat, stone chip resistance, adhesion
between basecoat and elctrocoat
3) basecoat - provides color to the vehicle
4) clearcoat - sunlight protection, scratch resistance, gloss
and appearance properties

Film thickness is a criteria used by the auto industry to ensure durability.

Each of the 4 layers must be at the proper film thickness specification.

If any of the individual layers is below specification. The vehicle would
be considered a factory paint defect.

A visible manifestation of low film thickness is paint peeling, body rusting and stone chipping.

Since the mid 1990s the auto industry while retaining ownership of the paint facilities have outsourced
the process and quality responsibilities to multiple paint suppliers.

Outsourcing in this application is defined as a process in which a company
assigns its in-house operations to a third party.

Specifics on automotive paint suppliers roles within the facilities may be found in textbooks published both
in Europe and America. The most recent textbook being released in 2008.

The paint suppliers actively market and advertise their outsourcing expertise with terms such as "Cost Per Unit" or
"Pay As Painted" supplier programs. Outsourcing [Cost Per Unit] programs are common throughout Europe and America
within the auto industry.

Not all vehicle flaws are associated with the paint itself, vehicle design and weathering will impact the vehicle's finish.

It is our opinion that the automaker, auto dealer and consumer should not receive a vehicle painted below the
automaker's film thickness specifications of any of the four layers that comprise a vehicle's finish.

We have analyzed the film thickness data of over 11,000 vehicles and
have found that the measurements are below the automakers' specifications.

Low film thickness will cause paint failures.

Investigation summarized in press releases:
http://www.mmdnewswire.com/auto-industry-6716.html
and
http://www.mmdnewswire.com/vehicle-paint-quality-6280.html

A quick internet search for the following:

Toyota Paint Problems, Toyota Paint Peeling
Ford Paint Problems Ford Paint Peeling
GM Paint Problems GM Paint Peeling
Chrysler Paint Problems Chrysler Paint Peeling
Honda Paint Problems Honda Paint Peeling
Nissan Paint Problems Nissan Paint Peeling

will return results back in the millions.

Public Interest best served by a "Truth in Finish Disclosure"
with the purchase of any vehicle.
