I am the proud owner of a 2006 f250 with a 6.0 power stroke , i got the truck at a good deal , it only has 44k miles , i heard a lot of bad things about the 6.0 what can i do to pro long my trucks life? , should i have veads studs installed ? should get a new e g r valve ? you tell me, so far my truck is perfect with no problems what so ever , i bought a 2006 f250 quad cab 4x4,with 44k miles from a guy who was gona let it go back , this truck still smells new and has never been smoked in , Also if i buy a tuner like a bully dog or a banks will it void my warrenty ?

ok the 06/07 are the best years and ford has spent less money on repairs for thoses years then they did in 03 on the 7.3l.

theres lots of info on here and a bunch of very happy owners.
the rules are easy for a long life.
change the oil often
change the fuel filters at 15k
moniter the air filter minder and change it.
change the oil again
flush the crap outta the cooling system. there a lot of casting sand in the system.
check the batteries and alternator every few months (big issue is low voltage killing ficms)
run only the stock air filter unless you go past 500hp. this is the best filter out there on the market. repeat after me there is no better air filter.
and change the oil.
so in short lots of oil changes when they should be done and you and the truck will be happy for a long time.

as a Ford diesel tech I will say I drive a 06 6.0l f250 swb cc fx4 and love it.

so far as head studs go. there not a bad thing but while under 5/100 ford and fords bill I would not. that is a good reason to void warrenty.
Will a program void a warrenty... thats a hard question and depends alot on both the dealer and the issues.
myself I have help void a few and helped abunch out and just pretended that the stuff was not there.
the ones I have taged are the ones that have a large history of issues and the ones that lie to me about what they have on the truck as mods.

the reason that I have gotten the ones with long historys is they failed to learn there lesson on some elses dime the first time and I know I can not keep that truck outta the shop.
The reason I have done the liers in well its just that. when your truck has been in the shop 3 times all with the famous u0033 ficm code and the programer in center console, also with the stupid frign cord still pluged in to the dlc and you tell me you dont have a prog. This is the same guy that says you scrached my truck and what a pos it is.
and the other reason is going to be the lier will not take the good advise at 80 and pay the difference to have the studs put in hell bitch and want them for free. (fyi at are shop that would run about 1500 more for the upgrade as we dont pull cabs for the most part)

my .02

my take on it is this.
fuel filters= 15k use racor filters, international filters, or ford filters.
oil filter. 5k and same vendors for the filters
coolant filter or flush it every 50k
as for tuning get a sct and run custom tunes. monitor you temps and be conservative. but be willing to pay if you play. since you are under warranty i will say that your hands are tied on alot of things till the warranty expires.

id stay away from the banks, bullydog, edge and other box tuners. the sct is about the best tuning device coupled with custom tunes you can get

The advice you have received is right on target. Follow it and you will be happy.

Find out how much warranty you have left. To do this, you need to know when the truck was originally purchased (you may have a 60k mile PowerTrain warranty in addition to the 5 yr / 100k engine warranty).

Look over the Tech folder - get to know it. the more you know about your truck, the more likely you are to be happy and you will be better off financially.
