First Upgrades: '06 Dually 4x4 Just 15,000 miles

Has anyone added the Banks Big Hoss kit to their 6.0? I only drive my truck about 1000 miles a year and have just got the bug to upgrade it. It's completely stock and I bought it new. At $3400, the kit is not cheap.

Guess I hope to learn from you members if there is anything I should watch out for when installing this kit. I use my my truck to haul 15,000lb boat. Thanks.

I'm not sure what's in that kit, but I would maybe invest in arps before trying to beef up the motor. Granted it only has 15,000 miles, mine has 201,ooo and I'm pulling it in next weekend to do head studs and gaskets.

So it's all really up to you. I'm sure others will chime in.

It is too much money for what you are getting. What are you looking at to get for your truck?

You should go with a sct with custom tunes from either matt at gearhead or Eric at innovative. Thats the safest way to go when tunning a 6.0. Also put in a 4" turbo back exhaust. Don't install a after market intake. They are not needed on a 6.0 the stock one flows better and filters better then anything on the market. As far as the intercooler, they are not needed either. The stick one is pretty good and will hold up to alot more boost than tunning alone will get you. The banks intercooler is a nice piece, for "bling" factor, but will not get you any performance gains.

The Big Hoss isnt worth the money. I had it on my truk and sold most of it off. The only thing left is the Intercooler. Its a good cooler but I noticed no differnce over stock.

The only nice thing was the PDA, but I never used it as a tuner, just for guages. When I got the itch to tune it I sold the Six Gun and PDA and got enough money from that to buy a SCT from innovative and couldnt be happier.

IMO, get some guages, and do some reliability mods with the money you would spend on that system.

With just 1k a year, and you are concerned somewhat about price, I wouldn't mod the truck at all. Maybe put a high idle mod if you have the upfitter switches on your truck. There is a writeup on how to do it in the tech section.

Just with that little driving a year, you really aren't going to see much benefit in modding your truck. I know it's not a fun thing to say, but I just don't see the reason for doing it. Just enjoy the truck in stock format for the little bit of driving you do with it.

You barely use it. So I think spending money on performance mods will be a waist.

I use it all the time. 40k roughly miles per year on my truck, hauling 16k worth of horse and related goods to horse shows. That is a far cry from 1k a year. He runs a very good chance of stuck vains on his truck and some other issues that generally happen to very low use vehicles.

If he is concerned about funds, which was hinted at, it would be far more efficiently used on a vehicle that he spent a great deal of time in. I wouldn't have bothered with the statement at all had he not mentioned the price factor. All the crap that we do to our trucks is expensive, if cost is a concern from the get go then you should weigh should it be spent despite the fact that you really want to do it.

Tuners and performance enhancers are a precious application at best with the 6.0, add to the fact that is is a very low use 6.0, which is well known to lead to problems on a stock truck, price also being a concern, why do it? What you have here is very much a recipe for another victim of the crappy 6.0 engine.

Like Sarge, I had the whole Banks kit installed at one time and have gotten rid of most of it. It's too much money for what you get. I got rid of the PDA first because if it was on there, I wanted to use it. The SCT is sooo much better as a tuner though (with Matt's help).

Basically resist the marketing
