Question Headlight question

I am in the process of finishing a ground up restoration on a 46 1/2 ton and would like to upgrade the head lighting from the standard sealed beam lights. Already have alternator with 12 volt, neg ground system. Can someone clarify for me the difference in the halogen light system, versus the HD system and if it would be worth considering either for better headlighting? The hd seems quite expensive relative to the other two types. Any info or ideas would be much appreciated. phil w.

You mean HID correct?

HID is a revolutionary concept in automotive light that provides 3 times more light on the road compared to traditional halogen headlights. Each light uses a tube of Xenon gas, and small amounts of other noble gases, placed between two high-voltage electrodes that emit a bright bluish/white light then electrodes are activated.

I believe it's a fad that will fade away, I am hoping anyway. I hate meeting someone with these lights, and there have been studies that the whiter/bluer light gives a false impression of more light, but the older halogen lighting actually illuminates a further distance.
