Battery icon Flashing

Hello guys. I have a sport trac 2005. The problem is when I press my accelerator, the battery icon comes out onthe dashboard. I have bought a new battery although my battery is still in great shape i suppose because the mechanic said so. But i know that if you look at the battery sight the float is already yellow. Soooo, what do you think is the problem?

I think you need a new, honest mechanic who know how to use a VOM.

12.5vdc battery voltage at rest
14.5vdc Charge at 2000rpm

I would be checking the brushes and commutator in the alternator.

probably the alternator. normally last about 100k miles, but can go earlier. the mechanic should be able to diagnose that. takes about 5 minutes to figure it out.

I'd say it's pretty rare for a bad battery to cause the "charging system" indicator to illuminate. As both replies above suggest, the problem is likely the alternator. Likewise, a simple check of the charging system voltage during a start condition and with engine running should indicate pretty quickly where the problem likely lies.
