Lightbulb 15w-40?

Just wondering with the colder months approaching.....I know with the regular gasoline cars.....I would switch to 0w-30 vs. 5w-30. I seen at my job, that we have diesel oil, Rotella 15w-40 as well as 5w-40. Should I keep the same (15w-40) or should I go a little lighter? I do keep it plugged in when its brutal out.....however just trying to keep it easy on the oil pump. As well as going from running reg. conventional Rotella to Delo Mobil 1. Would you reccomend changing from conventional to synthetic? The reason I ask is we are having like $20 off for purchasing 4 gallons of Delo. Now I understand that when you go from running synthetic, you cannot go back to conventional. I would much prefer to run synthetic in it because that is what I ALWAYS run in everything that takes oil. However the owner before me ran conventional......
Again....still pretty new to this diesel thing here....just stabbing around the bush with my ideas running through my mind.

Thanks!!

~Tim

My understanding is that 5-40 or even 0-40 is a synthetic oil. In any case, you should be able to go to the Rotella 5-40 or 0-40 without problem. I run Rotella 0-40 during the cold season, and 15-40 during the summer. No issues so far, and I've been doing this for almost 4 years now with 330k kilometers on my 7.3. Hopefully somebody with lots of oil knowledge can verify this!

I run 5w40 all year long. Where are you finding Rotella 0w-40?? I wouldn't run it here, but the folks up in the frozen tundra might like to know.

Cool.....Well....you wouldnt have gone 330km if you were doing something wrong! I'm glad I didn't get the "what the hell is he talking about" or "is he nuts?!" Just from pouring the 15w-40 in on a 70 degree day.....it had the same consistancy of what I put on my hot cakes! I couldn't imagine what its like on the bitter days....

If you want to compare, put some 15w-40 & 5w-40 in your freezer...

5w-40 Rotella for me too all year long. I have 112K on the clock now. I switched when I had 105K from 15w-40 dino oil and didn't miss a beat. No more Romps either on cold weather start ups.

I buy the 0-40 from local farm supply store (UFA for you Albertans). Never looked for it anywhere else...
