I got a new (well, it was new to me...) motor for my '87 F150 after I killed the old 302, I decided I would rebuild the motor I bought before I dropped it in. I've hit the snag that the crankshaft will not turn once I attach a piston to it.
I have bought all my parts based on the assumption that the motor I'm working on is a late 70's model 302 (this is what the seller told me it was). But based on my crankshaft problem, I'm beginning to think that I have a different motor.
Anyway, the code on the engine is C9OE-6015-O atleast thats what it looks like, the first letter was hard to decipher but it was either a C or an O.
The casting number doesn't say a whole lot unfortunately, it just shows what year the mold was created which may or may not be the year the casting you have was created, molds were often used for many years.
Have the crank and rods been machined on this motor or are you simply installing new bearings without machine work?
The casting number you gave us is saying it is from a 69'. The 6015 is just basically telling you it is a engine. The o I cant really find out what engine that is for but at least you know now that what ever it is it aint a late seventies
The pistons are 60 over, I'm not sure about the ring end gap... but the pistons move freely in the cylinders until I hook them up and torque them down to the crank shaft.
The Bearings came with the Crankshaft (Its been ground 20/20) should I really need to get the crankshaft machined?
The crank no but the rods yes, the big end tends to go oval shaped over time so they need to be machined round again. A machinist will be able to tell you if you have the right bearings for this crank/rod combo too.
