Exclamation 04 Explorer Sport Trac 4.0L SOHC need help putting engine in time

my wife was driving the sport trac and a link in the camshaft chain broke , and cut a gash in the valve cover , i fixed the cover , and replaced the chains

but how on earth do u put this engine back in time?
all the guide show use of a Camshaft Positioning Tool , what i dont see is what angle does the cam go in at horizontal with head , vertical with head ?
im thinking if i use the CPT , then i could still end up with the cam 180degrees out

Currently i have Piston 1 in TDC , and cant figure out where to set the cams

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You can't set the cam timing without the tools. You must lock down the crankshaft, each camshaft, and then tighten the cam sprocket bolts. There is no way to 'eyeball' it. If you are off even a half of a degree, you are going to have some problems.
