When I bought this truck earlier this summer it had (from what I notice) a common problem: It wouldn't shift into reverse/sometimes had trouble going into gear. I replaced the bushings in the pedal assembly, installed the major firewall reinforcement kit and replaced both the master and slave cylinder. Problem fixed, or so I thought.
Recently the clutch pedal hasn't been returning all the way up, it's only been going half way or about even with the brake pedal. While this doesn't usually affect it's driveability, every once in a while it still has the same problem: The clutch pedal feels spongy, and it doesn't want to go into/come out of gear. Process of elimination tells me it must be a problem with the clutch assembly or the flywheel. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
While on that topic, what kit do you recommend for a solid flywheel conversion?
i just started sometimes having the same problem off and on but i also have a real loud screeching noise that i was told that my release bearing was going
Unfortunately when I replaced the master & slave cylinders I replaced all the fluid so that and the fluid being low is out.
I did notice when it acts up it feels like the clutch pedal won't go all the way down, almost like there's a bottle or something underneath the pedal. My best guess is something is either holding up the throwout bearing so that it doesn't slide freely on the bearing retainer, or something with the pressure plate.
I have installed new clutch master cylinders, slave cylinders and brake master cylinders that the "new" parts were worse than the old ones in less than 100 miles.
A couple years ago I had a brake master cylinder fail in under 30 miles.
There is very little quality control on many parts these days.
