I just bought this truck. 1991 F250 4.9 4wd , 5 spd w code trans 3.55 gears.
Everything works like a charm , but it has tossed 2 new belts in 3 weeks. The p/s pulley has maybe 1/16 play front to back and the idler assy is canted just a shade to the lower front. All other pulleys are snug and visually in line. I am snookered here. Going to throw a complete idler assy at it and go from there.
Anyone have any idea's?
Thanks, Volks
That idler being canted will throw a belt everytime. Also check to make sure the pulleys have the same number of ribs on them. I got a alternator from a parts place and it had one less rib, that caused the belt to tear and fall off. I went back but they already sent the core out. Went to the junkyard and found another proper pulley and put on.
going in the right direction with the tentioner. the rotator shaft of it usually will wear to the point of letting the arm stick out of alignment and kick the belt off. if that does not fix it start looking for broken brackets as in alternator/powersteering brackets.
