Ok, this isnt the typical "I want to get rid of my air pump" thing.
(No emissions where im at.)
Im trying to install something and it needs some space. What does the "coffee can" do and is it necessary? I was told its like backup vacuum, or vacuum storage for when the truck is off, whatever. True? Needed?
Also, there is another canister sitting on its side and it has one plastic hose (like a vacuum cleaner hose) coming off of it and stuck into the fender area under the blower motor and it runs to the top of the air pump. What does that do?
My plan is to remove/consolidate this stuff so I can fit my 4x10 object and bolt it down. I dont want to remove it and make the truck run like s*it though.
the thing with the vacuum hose is the intake for your air pump, allows it to draw clean cool air in, instead of crap from right off the road. Not really needed, expecially if your emissions are unhooked anyways. the other thing is a vacuum canister, used to keep engine vacuum up, yes that is needed.
a) vacuum reservoir (accumulator) so your heat and stuff work while you have little vacuum.
b) filter, to keep debris from trashing the vanes of your air pump(s)
Hahaha. Ok ok, ill tell you. I have an air compressor. It was originally the A/C Pump but it went (yes yes, I oiled it manually for 2 years) and im not going to buy another one, not worth it to me. I got a 12v compressor and it was in the tool box of my truck but it wasnt working out cause well, the box is there for a reason; storage. So, to get it out of my way I want to mount the pump in the engine bay.
Can I move the above mentioned canisters? Not much.. Im trying to clean up a little space above that fender well. The other side does not seem as fit because of all the harness wires and whatnot.
Thanks for your responses though.
By the way, I was out. If you havent seen 'Law Abiding Citizen' and you can, go. Pretty sweet movie.

Shouldn't be an issue to move the vacuum cannister, just splice/extend the rubber lines.
The A.I.R. pump filter in my truck is plumbed with much more rigid (heater hose sized) lines, and would probably be a PITA. Could you just lose it and install a breather filter close to the pump itself?

If you're going to go to the trouble of cutting the line down for a breather filter, why not just get some more flexible line and relocate the original filter?

I don't know since I have not modified mine but I'd imagine that Ford made them stiff so that if the filter became clogged the hose would not collapse under the suction from the pump.
My filter cannister is bulky (and if I understand the OP correctly) he is looking for additional space to mount an electric air compressor.
Alright, I got it. It shouldnt be hard to unbolt and slide the canisters over a few inches inward. The compressor I have fits now but it could use a tad bit more room. It does get sorta hot when running. Ill fidget with the air pump filter and see what exactly it is and if its possible to move or fab something up. I dont want to take chances of destroying my air pump cause im not that kind of person. I would just like to do what I can to free up some space for my little toy, thats all.
Again, thank you all for the help. No advice is better than the stuff from real people with the same vehicles.
