Worked it's way closed????
There is a spring inside the pedastal that is supposed to hold it open.
It's a "fail safe" part of the design.
All I know is what I saw, the Mechanic had to use a hammer and long screwdriver to open the valve which had apparently found a way to close itself. The truck ran fine after he did it. I watched the whole process. When he got the valve open, he reattached the solenoid and pulled the plug so it would not try to close again. My friend (the owner) has never heard the jet engine sound we all know and love, so the valve has not worked since he has owned the truck.
To all who answered my call, I thank you. My phone (or rather my challenged fingers) limited my abilitiy to reply in a timely fashion. Courtesy Ford,The Ford dealer in Pocatello Idaho that happened to be about two blocks from where we were stranded, is top-notch in my book, they got us in right away, diagnosed the problem by our description, and had us back on the road in about an hour. We were not told that we could not be in the shop area, and in fact were able to watch and assist. I hope I don't get any one in trouble here, but I want to give credit where it's due, in my opinion this is not a "stealership" but rather a honest shop that at no time tried to gouge us. We finished a semi successful hunting trip (two deer for four hunters) in southeast Idaho, and are back home.
