Hood Scoops

I see lots of Superdutys with hood scoops?
Ive seen a few that looked pretty decent.
Are the functional?
If they are functional what do they do for a 7.3?
I dont think Id want one unless they did something but i like them , so someone tell me they are useful.........................

If you're talking about the "cowl induction" type of hood scoop, then no, they are not functional as long as the factory hood insulation is in place.

I made mine functional by cutting out the insulation underneath the scoop and I almost instantly plugged it back off. It seems as though the high pressure area at the base of the windshield pressurizes the engine compartment enough to hinder flow of air through the intercooler and radiator at highway speeds.

Around town, it DOES make a difference, especially with frost on the windshield. However, I strongly recommend a "heat extractor" type hood if you want to have something functional.

I think most are cosmetic and for those that claim to be functional I would like to see what the function claim is. You could always remove the rubber strip at the firewall top but that may let water run down the firewall in some instances which could be bad.

I like camodown's heat extractor hood, if I could afford it, thats what I'd get, sharp and functional.
