Hey everyone. I don't have a superduty yet. Right now I have a 2007 Nissan Titan (with big tow package). This package can tow up to roughly 10k pounds. I'm towing about a 4500lb boat, but it seems as though it doesn't have the grunt I want. I've been looking at F250's but the newer ones are REAL expensive. I could probably get about 22k for my titan, but in the diesel world I don't think I could get anything good for that price. Anyway, when I go looking for used ones, what is roughly the mileage I should be looking for (Diesel one)?? I know a lot of these can run forever, but I wanted to get a baseline of mileage I can go with. I'm willing to go up in price to about 28k (thats including my trade in). Also looking for a crew cab one. So thanks for any info, year range, etc... I should be looking for.

You can probably get a brand new xl model deisel for that price range if you don't mind not having the chrome bumpers and the truck being white, check around a little. If you buy a used ford, get an oasis report from the dealer, they are free and give you the repair history of the vehicle. Do this before you buy, beware the post 7.3 ford diesel.

If you buy a used ford, get an oasis report from the dealer, they are free and give you the repair history of the vehicle. Do this before you buy, beware the post 7.3 ford diesel.

I don't think sketchy is the right word, there are many here who swear by them, but they can be a complete nightmare, just ask any mechanic any where about the ford 6.0. it doesn't sound like you need a diesel anyway. Just price a new gasser, and you may be suprised at the deal you may get after rebates, you can certainly find something in that price range. Check out the 150's, they have been redone and are pretty nice, they have a good tow capacity.

The problem you're going to have with looking for a 7.3 is finding one with low miles. The newest out there is 2003 and it'll be tough finding one with less than 100k.
Unless you plan on getting a significantly heavier trailer than you currently have, or you live at high elevation, I'd go with a gasser. It's cheaper to acquire, cheaper to maintain, and will still make your Nissan look like a Yugo.

You can probaly find one in that price range in an 06 - 07 and maybe 08 depending on what options it may have. The deisel is alot more maintance oil, fuel filters ect. I have the deisel and love the power. I got my 2006 that is a lariet FX4 loaded with heated mirros & seats (leather), factory 6 disc cd, factory dvd, auto sliding rear window, trailer brake control etc. I got a deal on it $27,000 two years ago. I would try to find one with under 100,000 and get the extend warranty especially with a diesel. I wished i had it when i had to replace the FICM out of pocket.

Not sure where you are in NC but this guy is in VA and always has used trucks in stock that are in exceptional condition. He usually has a bunch of Fords and specializes in 7.3 trucks. If you're dead set on a 7.3, it might be worth giving him a call.

That said, my 6.0 has been flawless since new. If you decide to get a Ford, especially a 6.0, get an OASIS report on it and post any questions about the information in it. From the sounds of it though, I would think you'd be just as happy with a gasser. Both the 5.4 V8 and the 6.8 V10 are excellent engines and would serve your needs fine. My truck gets great mileage (15-17 average) and I have gotten as high as 21.8 out of it. The downside to that is the maintenance costs are greater with the diesel.
The used truck market seems to be rebounding and prices are rising again so it is a good time to go ahead and get into one before they climb too much higher. And, to echo the above, with the current rebates, you could probably get into a new gas Super Duty in the price range you mentioned.
