Got in a wreck and 2 tires are toast will be replacing all 4
Had been running BFG 295/75/16 on stock wheels. My BFG's had dry rot cracks on them, even in between the tread. Is this common on these tires??
Second question: My fronts rub a little on the on the rear of the fender well plastic at full turn. I saw a fix for that . just never did it yet. Will going to a 305/70/16 work? It is .2" shorter, but .7" wider. I would like the wider look is the reason. Also it is recommended for 8 - 9.5" rims. Mine are at the bottom at 8". Anyone run these or see problerms?
Dry rot will happen to all tires after a period of time. How old are they? You can check the DOT numbers and figure out the manufactured date. Typically tires will start showing some signs of age - whether cracks in the sidewall or tread - after about 5 years. Doesn't mean the tire is completely done - but it certainly needs to be monitored closely. I wouldn't run them very long with any signs of dry rot - just the weight of our trucks puts stress on the tires.
If you are rubbing with 295/75 - you wont be any better off with 305/70 - you can certainly modify the plastic liner if that is what you are hitting. You may also be experiencing spring sag which is not uncommon. Check the distance you have between the springs and the bump stops - might be time for new springs.
Yours looks very similar to mine - I think mine sits a little higher in the front though - may be the v10 vs. diesel. I was afraid of rubbing as well so only went to 285's to replace the 265's.
