I cross referenced the part numbers at Autozone for a 300 starter out of a '68 and a 302 starter out of a '71 same part numbers. You should be good to go as long as the starter was meant for a manual tranny in the first place, but I'd check with a parts guy or someone with a bit more knowledge first.

The only difference in the small block starters was auto vs manual, and possibly two different ring gears for the manuals. Pull the one out of the truck, and compare the gears. If they are the same, it'll fit.
Double check to make sure it's actually a starter issue, it's really common for the starter lead to chafe and short out where it threads through by the motor mount.
