Foggy Windshield

Really hate the foggy windshield syndrome that seems to plague the early bronco...
i already put an F-150 blower and squirrel guage in my 67..... but my problem really is that the water in the heater core doesn't heat up fast enough or hot enough to defrost the windshield.....

Anyone out there put a heating element in the heater core... i know this requires soldering etc.... to rapidly heat up the water in there like they do on the fancy cars these days? Just wondering....

If your defrost hoses are right and the heater valve opening all the way it should work fine. Did you reseal the heater box when you updated? All those little foam seals rot away and it leaks like crap.

I did re-seal the box with new seals too.... this Bronco is a 67... and I have never taken the dash off the tub..... so I do not know if the vents that are attached to the dash are in great shape.... but I also don't have a hole in the center of the dash like the I have 74 does... so only a defroster at each side....

My defroster works, but it never gets the center of the windshield clear and really it would really help if the air was hotter.... the other thing I neglected to mention is that I have aluminuim heads... so I have a low T-stat and up graded radaitor.... in winter my temp guage barely hits the first notch.....

I would most definatley consider / recommend a different / warmer thermostat for the winter... both for the sake of your defrost & engine.

So nobody has installed/rigged up a rapid heat thing like luxury cars use that either heats the air/water like a spaceheater?

you can rig up a air/space heater in your bronco but i dont think that will help your defrost problem. you most definatley need more heat from your engine as i think that is your biggest problem especially if your temp guage barely registers. you cant go wrong.

Instant hot air? Why not? Anyway you look at is... if you have the oldschool setup you still have to heat all the water in the block before the air is hot enough to defrost the windshield.... if this was a Gelandawagen... as soon as I put the temp thing to hot, ws defrost and fan high and turn the car on.... I get ree-lee hot air from the vents......

Use the time tested cardboard in front of the radiator trick. Truckers use a zippered cover for adjustment. There are numerous things old VW owners have used for years as this is a common problem. But even with them a proper operating stock system will do the job. You need to get the engine temp up.

Things do work once the truck has heated up. I am just hoping for something a little quicker if possible. What really defrosts my windshield is the engine heating up the hood and the hot air coming off it..... If you could get a 12v high temp heat tape and wrap the heater core, run it off a switch... I would probably have mission accomplished.... just wondering if anybody had done this..... I guess I am the first......
