Stupid Emissions

Hey guys I'm gonna make this short and sweet I have a 86 F150 300L6 and wanted to know what emmision stuff can I take off without the use of buying other things for it. I once talked to a mechanic about it and he said I's need to but a new carb and everything for it. I'm 17 and am just trying to clean up the engine without spending alot. Is it possible and can I have details how to do it? Thanks A Bunch

Does it run good? Start right up? All that stuff hooked up, working right, not rusted out, not leaking? If yes, leave it alone.

Do you have, or are you likely to have, emissions testing in your area? If yes, leave it alone.

There is no "double the power" lurking in this or any other engine once the emissions stuff is pulled.

Another thing to consider is if you still have the cats on teh truck, and start belching unburned hydrocarbons at em, theyll get plugged up quick and then youre back to square 1 with trying to get more power out of it.

I second the notion to keep it the way it is if its running well.

I would also recommend giving more info.

That's pretty much the short of it. Emissions do not rob near the power people think they do.

Your setup is 100% designed to run with every piece of emissions equipment intact. If you start removing one part, another that needs it to operate will start to fail, reducing power. Once you've finally tracked down each and every piece, replaced the carburetor, retuned it from scratch, and "cleaned" up the engine bay, you'll have spent a lot of time and money, add to the pollution that we already deal with, and maybe gain 1 - 2 horsepower and 0.25mpg.

It's a lot of effort for nothing. The 300 just isn't one of those engines that was plagued with emissions or emissions power drain. If I remember right, a pre-emission era 300 actually had less hp than an emissions era'd one.

What everyone here said. I understand why you want to "clean" up the engine bay but it isn't worth it.

Do you have any pictures of your truck? I love those 80's step side Fords. Best looking trucks around.

Ok its not a power thing at all. Im new to this forum and I'm going to let you know something. I like a veichle clean. My dad has a 83 C10 that was chopped , dropped and clean he would win every show he went too. It was known he was going to win. I have historic tags so I dont need to go to emmisons anyways. I am already painting the pumps, pulleys, jack stand. My suspension is all painted too. Its all gloss paint. If i wasnt 17 and could have another truck to drive I really would because I would like this truck to just be run to shows ands meets. Thanks for your input anyways. And I have quite a few pics on my page of it.

Sounds like you already know what you're going to do to the truck. So do it. =)
