Anyone know how. The owner manual not real clear. Everytime I perform what it says in the manual, it only changes the % of time. I'm really confused. I have an 06'.
The reset will change the percentage of "life" remaining on the oil. When you have fresh oil, you have 100% life remaining. When it gets down around 15% you should consider changing the oil. It sounds like you are able to successfully reset to 100%, is that correct?
Are you following the steps starting on the bottom of page 79 in the owner's manual, or those on page 82? You should be using those on page 79. Do you get the message on the top of page 80 which reads, “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%”? What does the "alarm" message say?
Got It...
Thanks for the replys and help. Although my manual is different from yours, after I found that there may be a different section than the one I was reading, I found it on page 72. Still took me a few minutes to figure it out but now it don't tell me that the oil needs changing.
I've just purchased a used 2007 Sport Trac. The oil was changed a couple of days before I got it, and the Need to change oil alert constantly comes on. I have followed the manual (page 76), but I can not get it to read 100%. It seems that when I hold the selection rod down, that step is skipped or not recognized.
I wonder if you have an old edition of the owner's manual. On the 4th printing the instructions are on page 105.
From the steps outlined in the owner's manual, what steps seem to get skipped? Do you see the "Hold Reset if New" message after pressing the Select/Reset button?
Thanks everyone who responded with my problem of the computer refusing to set the oil change alert to 100% and the Oil Change Needed alert not going away. I tried everything, including following the instructions in the manual exactly. And no, the engine was not running when I was trying to reset the oil index.
I finally got the Oil Change Needed alert to go away. I disconnected the battery for about a half hour. When reconnected, the alert was gone, and the oil index was set to 100%.
Apparently there is a glitch in the software program.
