This is just another sad commentary on the state of our nation. It's ridiculous to say the least. Sadly too, this thread will probably end up in the club. Anyhoo, here are some links from the comments below the story including a link to a story about this that's a little more informative than the original:

American flags banned from vehicles at Albany apartment

Flag Code

'O,' say can you see Obama's face on U.S. flag?

At the bottom of page 10 of the comments, there is a comment by John Galt that is bizarre but interesting. Also, there is a link to a flag being sold on Ebay that is equally bizarre. And, there is a very good link the "flag code".

I don't understand why people who would be offended by the flag of the United States of America would even be here. If they don't like it they should leave.

I read this story on Drudge yesterday and I am lost for words. "Diverse community"? You probably can't get any more diverse than the good old U S Of A.

Well on the flip side, there are no foreign flags flying at the apartment building either. Which was probably what started the problem to begin with if the wavers of the stars and stripes got confrontational with them.

I am sorry. This is America!! If you fly an American flag there should be no penalty. If I went to Italy, how could I be offended by seeing the Italian flag etc...
Any country that you visit or choose to live, if allowed, You should accept the pride of that country.
This is total toro ca ca.

The only thing that needs to be removed, is the management at that apartment complex, not the Stars and Stripes.

If you choose to live in the USA and are from a different country suck it up and LIVE by the rules of this country, if you do not like it LEAVE.

Last time I looked this was still the Good Ole USA. How can anyone even think of telling people they are not allowed to fly a US flag. If it would have been me, I first would have told them to F-off. Second I would have gone out and bought bigger flags to fly.
What really offended me (and its not the link) was the site on ebay selling the "modified" flag. Now, people have the right to burn the US flag in protest (as many have done) but when you modify the flag like that, then attempt to profit from it. Well lets just say that hitchin that person up to 4 horses and letting the horses run comes to mind.

I agree that it is a dumb rule, but like one said with those of different origins here I would just about bet that someone had a Mexico or say Italy flag and somebody had a cow about it. So as usual everybody gets screwed when they make a rule to cover it. However let's also not forget that these are renters here. They signed a lease and in the lease there shuold have been the flag rule. The owners are the ones that make the rules. If you don't like it then move. I have more of a problem with HOA's that also have similar rules sometimes in addition to other ones. If I'm the one paying the bill and the taxes and the HOA fees then I should have the say, but again you signed up for the HOA when you bought into it. I'll stay in my old house that doesn't have those rules and go on.
