1998 F150 Intake problem
I have a 1998 150 xlt supercab,2wd, w/a 4.6 liter. I have had a bad pinging problem for a long time. I had engine codes indicating both banks running lean. I changed the intake gaskets about 9 months ago. The codes went away for about 5 months and now have come back.I found a few vacuum lines leaking and replaced them. I now have a bad miss for the first few minutes after start up. It is smoking during this time( it is definately burning coolant) after this it runs really good. Does anyone know about an updated manifold for this truck? I dont think it has a blown head gasket, there is no coolant in the oil, and the truck does not overheat.Has anyone had a problem with the ford gaskets? Or does anyone have any other Ideas? well, i dont know if the 4.6 is made like the 5.4 or not. The bigger motor has 2 water passages in each side intake gasket. I had the front cross over gasket leaking on the bottom of the intake and had to take the intake off to change it out. Old intake was "flat" and had taken a set also. Its hard to seal the plastic intakes with o-rings when they take a set. Mine leaked a small amount external and builtup in the motor valley. I also believe it overheated due to this and i think got a very small hole in the head gasket????? I believe a spoonfull of coolant would leak into one cylinder each night, Would stumble on startup every morning for 20 seconds after startup. After replacing the intakes i figured out the stumble part. I then use a liquid block sealer that you pour into clear water and run motor 30 minutes to do its thing. Drain and flush. Now i use no water, and no stumble. Dont know exactly where it was, buts its sealed now.
