Intermittent Start
I have a 2000 Harley F150 with about 22k miles on it. It has always been reliable but yesterday would only crank and not start. I noticed that the gauges would go crazy when this when this occurs. After going out and trying several times it would start. Then it wouldn't start, but sometimes I can turn the key back and forth and sometimes it will start again. I tried both keys so I don't think it has anything to do with the PATS system. the gausges don't do the crazy when I turn the key and it does start. Someone suggested the MAF sensor but I didn't think that would keep it from starting.

The gauge symptom sounds like a voltage problem. I'd check for high resistance by doing voltage drops. It could be a problem with the OFF/ACC/RUN/START switch at the key cylinder. That switch could cause your wierd intermittent problem, but there are other things you need to start the engine. How about your fuel pressure. Have you ever changed the fuel filter? You could do a fuel pressure/volume test to rule that out. Check your grounds and pos terminals especially at the BATT. Don't for get to check alt output. These are just preliminary checks you should do so you can start to narrow down the fault.
