It went great. I am so pleased with my choice. I got a Flowmaster Series 40 muffler dumped out (one in, two out) for about $90.00 parts and installation. I am in mad love with this sound. If you have any questions let me know! The amount of happiness is well worth the price. I should be uploading some pics of the truck soon.
(BTW it's a 2001 F150 Screw 4.6L)
Tell me about this dumped muffler. I've heard the term used when using exhaust cutouts to uncap a pipe before a muffler, but I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about. Did you just put the muffler on and leave off the tailpipes? Or only hook up the one pipe and leave the other off?

Ok, so it's basically just straight muffler. No pipes. The muffler comes straight off the main pipe and instead of splitting off into two pipes (for dual), it just uses those two openings and they curve down about an inch.
In short, it is a one in, two out muffler with no other piping.
I will be uploading some pics soon of the new system.
I gotcha. We used to call those turn downs. I had those on my truck when I got it. HATED it. I have a SI/SO Flow. I added a Y pipe and duals and quieted it down just enuf to leave a nice rumble at the rear bumper, but at least it's not vibrating my head like a drum anymore... (a sign I'm getting older?)
Flowmaster rust away after a few years and don't flow all that great. I prefer the mellower tone of the Magnaflow Mufflers now. They flow much better and do not rust.
Hey redwood, that could be the sign of age!
But otherwise I'm liking what I invested in. This truck will last me through high school and into college hopefully!
Chambers. I've done the same thing with mine. It sounds fine in the cab but I do get that drone at highway speeds but it takes getting used to. I'm waiting for it to rust off, fall off, or have Michigan winters take it's toll so I can redo my exhaust system. By that time the exhaust leak at the manifold will need fixin'.
I've heard that the interior sound is increased because the pulses are bouncing off the ground and coming straight back up. Also be careful, I was told when I had mine done that you might get exhaust fumes in the cab.
PapaJoe-
Thanks for the warning! I'll definitely keep a nose out for any fumes.
Also, how long would it take for a Flow40muffler to rust off or fall off in, say, Texas..?
FYI if there are not drain holes in the bottom in the muffler do your self a favor and either punch a couple small holes or drill a couple this will greatly increase the life, they didn;t dot at to mine when it was installed the first time second time did it myself

My truck is a retired fleet vehicle, and its second owner took it through high school and college, beat the living crap out of it, killed a deer with it, and blew up the motor. That's where I came into the picture. It's all original where it counts except for the front valance, one fog light, and the engine, and the rest of the drive train is still original and tight. If it doesn't last, you have done your dead level best to kill a good vehicle...
As for the sound of a flowmaster, I like it. I just like it away from the cab...
