I know there are old threads about prerunners, but i want to know what y'all think about 73-79 prerunners. I was thinking of building one one day, but not out of my truck. Does anybody have pictures of 73-79 prerunners?
I saw one for sale on ebay a few months ago...it was badass, and it was the first one that I have ever saw. The dude selling it must have had fifty grand or more into this truck. It had four-link, and a custom tube chassis, and fiberglass pre-runner style fenders. The motor that was in it looked like it belonged in a NASCAR race car. The best part about the truck is that it was made from a crew cab! I would love to build one, but unfortunately my checkbook has not caught up with my imagination yet.
I see prerunners every day just driving back and forth to work. With the front end jacked up and the rear end down low. I'm getting a little tired of it.
I saw a dentside that had the 'Calif lift" basically made to look like a prerunner. All the guy did was bend the I beams and put taller springs in the front. It didn't look very good in my opinion.
If you want to build a prerunner, keep the costs low, and be able to do it sastisfying quick. Go with a newer ford ranger. They've got all kinds of kits for those things. Old trucks are way to heavy to go romping around in the sand, plus they are old. When stuff breaks out in the desert you need a pretty good escape plan.
Good God! That thing is awesome, and it looks like it handles the sand pretty well for a heavy old truck.
I have a '79 short-box sitting around doing nothing...I should make it into a prerunner, because where I live I don't see these things everywhere...or anywhere, for that matter.
Yeah man the bumpside is sick. The only thing original on that is probably the body and u can tell that's heavilly modded at a glance. I'd love to see an old ford done up for Baja. I'd do it to mine but I want to save up for that new raptor
Looks like way too much fun. I'm gonna go out to the garage and look through my collection of old off road mags ,(mostly late 70s-early 80s), and see what I can find. If I come up with some good pre-runner pics, i will see if I can figure out how my scanner works and post some.

If you want to read more about that bumpside's history I found the backstory on it here: Team Loco life/?p=75
