Mine was an on and off failure, but now rarely ever works fore more than 1 second.
You can get a feel for it as you go.
You saw how long it was working at various temps, right?
Hold it for about how long you thought it should have been and if it does not even try to start, you just learn to hold it a little longer.

First start of the day in summer, 5 seconds.
We are having 40 degree nights now, 7 seconds.
Tomorrow morning we are supposed to be close to 30, probably 9 seconds.
At minus 10, around 12 seconds.
Remember with the new style system, power to the trigger circuit when the key is ON, so make sure you turn the key before you hit the button.
Since the control is all manual, the only problems it will not fix is burnt out glow plugs or no power to the relay battery terminal or broken wires between the relay and the glow plugs.
