I recently found out a tidbit that might help others in my position: I have a '78 hp 300, and after my rebuild I was looking for a high amp alternator to power my electric radiator fans. The truck came with a 70 amp alt., but with dual fans, I wanted to make sure I had the power if I were running the CD player, wind shield wipers, etc.
I searched the aftermarket and found 100 amp alt's were expensive, about $160 thru Summit, with postage. Then NAPA mentioned that the truck came with a 140 amp alt., with 'the full package' from the dealer.
The part # is 66197, $118.54, with tax, and they got it the same day.
It uses the same brackets as the 70 amp, but is about 1" larger in diameter. It clears my headers with miles of room.

The largest amp alternator Ford offered on any 1973/79 F100/350, Econoline, Passenger Car or 1978/79 Bronco was 100 amps.
The mounting brackets used with this alternator (usually found on 1977/79 Lincoln Town Cars/Continental Mark V's) is not the same as the 45/55/65/70 amp alternators.
The alternator's wiring harness is also specific to this 100 amp alternator.
Ford did not offer a 140 amp alternator until the mid 1980's.
