what amp alternator do i need
I have a 1999 f-350 V-10. My battery light came on, making me believe that my alt. has quit. I can't see the plaque on the alt so I can't tell the amps. Does my serial number on the truck tell the amps, or do i have to remove the alt to check the amps? Thanks in advance. Wayne

ALTERNATOR RATING
The rating is stamped somewhere in the case---probably in an area that you cannot see with the alternator mounted on the engine. If it is an original alternator, just go by the stamping. Being that the truck is close to 15 years old, I doubt if it is the original. The guy at the parts house will have a listing for the proper one. I don't think there were any optional capacity alternators--They were all the same. I think they were rated at 130 amps. Let us know when you find out.

I just replaced the alt on my 99 due to the same thing you have, It was the original as well. I just bought a reman unit from oreileys and when I did I was offered the standard 90 amp or the 130 amp. I took the 90 amp. Same body and size units. Consider if you just use the truck normally, no winching, no camper batteries, no 15 offroad lights, etc I cant see what good a 130 amp will do you.
