OK ever since i bought this truck i have had a bad somking and missing issue well it had leaking return lines and a bunch of leaking injectors so i ordered new delphi bb code injectors from russ(typ4 on oilburners) i put them in and a return kit, fired it up and it seemed to be running like it was suppose to, but it was still blowing that damn blue smoke! and every once in a while it would so something funny like it missed or something it would make a thudthudthud sound out of the exaust every now and then, well after it run for a minute the smoke seemed to go away and the thud thud went away, i reved it up and it smoked normal for a cols diesel well let it set and get warmer, and all at once smoke seems to come back but engine still runs good no thud thud this time, rev it up and it smokes a bunch this time and my gran pa said he thought it smelled like oil but here something strange the hole time i been messing with this truck the oil level hasnt changed, the oil dont smell like fuel and its not too thin,
Im just lost and not sure what to do, the truck set for a long time, it set 8 months and wasnt ever turned over total it set for over a year, it fired right up with a little squirt of either when i first cranked it, the guy said it had a rebuilt ip and he said it was rebuilt by a diesel mechanic he knew real good which worries me because were he lives there aint no such thing as an injection pump shop, could the ip cause my problems im having? <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
Smoke is only when i first crank it now then it goes away within a few minutes and after that all the smoke is all black, im thinkin that my smoke when i first crank it will go away when i get my glow plugs(there in the mail) i have been cranking it off of either so who knows
If you are cranking it with ether, the smoke is because the cylinder temps are to low to ignite all the fuel.
You should see one fire up at temps well below zero, even with working glow plugs if you don't have after glow.
Enough white smoke to cover the neighborhood in fog.
i kinda figured thats why it was smoking when cold, but thank god the smoke finally went away when driving down the road, i put a brand new set of delphi injectors in it and the guy i bought it from said it had a rebuilt ip maybe it does who knows but as of now its running good, well as for my secret plans i have a good 83 model 6.9 (the low compression motor) and im going to put new gaskets and stud the heads, and have it setting ready to throw in with a psd turbo and a factory turbo ip with a 4000 rpm governer spring
Put the 83 engine in as it is, rebuild the 86 motor with the goodies.
Much better block.
The 83 being the first year was the worst of the 6.9 engines.
yea, i know it is the worst year for 6.9, but this is a known good 83 block and the block isnt cracked its in good shape, right now i cant afford to have the truck down since im driving it now, i just want to have a good motor ready for when/if this one lays down or if i just get bored and have some extra time on my hands then i will put something with a little more get up and go in it, the 83 already has a 20.7:1 which is close to what your compression is
