Chrome on guage clusters

These are my practice guages and bezel but still came out pretty good. I used model paint for the needles on the guages. For the guage bezel, I primed then painted the entire thing semi-gloss black. For the chrome part, I bought chrome paint and sprayed it into a cup and brushed it on with a foam tip brush. I tried many things and it worked the best. The next time I will add thinner to the paint, because it dried quickly and I later dipped my foam brush and evened out the screwed up areas where the paint got too tacky. Unfortunately I used a little too much thinner and it made the paint spider web a bit on the bottom. Oh well, when I find time I will sand it down one last time and do it right. For now, it looks waaaaay better than before. Most people won't notice the imperfections. I need to remember it's not a show truck.

These are 79 guages. The dividers were silver. Later I'm going to swap this speedo out for the one in my other truck, it's a 100mph with no metric numbers.

That is funny, my wife and I were just talking today about how to make the bezel in my truck look better. Nice Job, looks great!

I just used a silver paint pen to do the gauges and bezel. I too don't have anything close to a show truck, but like to have everything looking as good as it possibly can. It took a little time getting it all even and looking decent. It's by no means perfect, but for the cost of a $3 paint pen, it looks a hell of a lot better then it did.

Now I just need to order a new gauge lense, but I have bigger things to get done on the truck before I worry about that, like an oil pump that actually works.

Looks good and a real cheap way of bringing the bezel back to life. Most bezels are in good shape in the junkyards except that the chrome finish has come off. Sure beats spending $100 for a new one.

Ive got a brushed aluniumium insert.
I got it off Ebay a few years ago and never used it.
Its been sitting in a pile of paperwork on my desk.
I just dug it out and looked at it.
It looks like it would work good and covers the whole guage faceplate.

Y'all were suckers.

Late '79 gauges were completely silver, giving you the same look as the expensive brushed aluminum faces.
