Question 72 F100 Couple ?s

How rare is a 72 F100 styleside, shortbed, 4spd. ?

My question is, I was told the motor was a 428ci. but how can i tell? it shows C8E4H Heads, 99352, which is on the front of the block. and a 45 ( I or one) F on the side by the oil filter. Is there any help, to tell me what it is?

I also have a lowering ?, the front coil springs were heated and ****ed up. there are no shocks in the rear. only leaf springs. how would i go about lowering the front and rear for a level stance, slightly tucked? and what size tires can i fit? fatter in the rear. like example: 275 and 225 in front.

Thanks. For your help.

Nothing rare about the styleside, there are less of them compared to the flairside.

Ask where the 428 came from? There were no 428s installed from the factory, so if indeed it is a 428, it is a transplant.

I'll let someone better informed on that issue than me address the lowering.

428: 1966/70 Passenger Cars only.

What size engine is it? Measure the stroke: 428 = 3.98" / 390 = 3.78" / 360 = 3.50"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The head ID number is actually C8AE-H = Ford part number: C8AZ6049M. This head is nothing special.

Original Application:

1968/71 F100/350 360/390.

1968/70: Galaxie/LTD 428 // Mercury Monterey/Montclair/Marauder 428.

1968/71: Galaxie/LTD 390 // Mercury Monterey/Montclair/Marauder 390.

1967/72 F100/350 Engine Choices

The standard equipment engine in all trucks was the 240 1V I-6.

Optional engines: 300 1V I-6 / 302 (1969/72 F100 only) / 352 2V (1967 only) / 360 2V / 390 2V.

You will need a 6-8in long piece of white house wire, a Sharpie, a friend and a big socket to fit the crank nut.

Remove the coil wire, one of the front spark plugs, poke the wire in the hole, rest the Sharpie on the manifold against the wire, have the friend turn the engine over a couple rounds by the crank, and measure the length of the mark on the wire.

PIECE O CAKE

Does it have an externally balanced crank?

Thanks. For your help.
Inside the block behind the freeze plug on the drivers side rear there is a little 428 casting number in there. Just another way to tell ND would know all the tricks.

I decoded the OP's VIN, codes from the Warranty Plate in another thread.

The truck originally came with 3 on the tree.

Since the 4 speed has been swapped in, the rarity of a short bed with a four speed...does not apply.

Bottom Line: If the parts on a car/truck have been swapped in after the fact, they cannot be considered rare to the vehicle.
