i just noticed tonite my truck isnt pullin on the top end... 2004 f250 270,000kms, SCT custom tunes, new fuel filters tontie, oil is close to needing a change, straight pipe exausht, oem air filter.
outside at temp is 27*F (-3*c), truck was warmed up fully, i punched the throttle on the way home from work, pipes started to bark, then truck seemed to "die" backed off throttle and ran good. if i drove less than 1/3rd throttle truck ran great. this is with SCT custom tunes on 120hp setting???
next road i turned on, punched it, it pulled hard like usual, went to pass sumone and it fell on its face, backed out of the throttle and i could baby it by him....
went home, changed fuel filters, now from a stop when i punch it, it takes off like a bat outta hell, pipes bark till it hits 3rd gear and it they stop barkin??? still pulls but not hard like it should.... this is all with SCT tunes cranked up.
truck has never done this before, boost runs normal, no codes w SCT reader, no CEL, new fuel filters, no weird engine noises, just as speed is built up the pipes quiet down, and slowly seems to loose power.. starts awsum, runs smooth, no injector stiction heard.....who thinks fuel pump???
PS upper fuel filter at engine seemd to "suck" air when i changed it??? bottom one wasnt that full..... fuel from a local semi card lock station so should be winter fuel..... thanks for the ideas.....

wow--that's tough. You should really check the fuel pressure before just throwing a pump at it. I'm thinking something a little different because of a very similar thread going on here this week. SCT sucks at reading codes, so don't take that as gospel, for sure. I'd go ahead and give it an oil change to see if that helps.
I agree with Tim. As you go thru the gears your load increases both from the gearing and wind resistance meaning more fuel. Sounds like either the pump can't keep up or you are sucking air somewhere. Are the fuel filters Racor just for starters?
Mine does the same thing occasionally, usually when its colder out and the fuel is thicker. When it craps I can see my fuel gauge dive, so I know its the pump.
update...... drove to work this morning on "stock" power levels, any hills truck was guttless, but never died/spit/sputterd, just slowly powerd out. i parked it in a heated shop for 11 hrs on the way home it seemed alright. i hardly drive it on stock settings thuo, so i cranked it back up, the 1first WOT run the pipes kinda faded in 2nd, but came right back and now it screams like it should!
im wondering if i got a lil summer diesel in one tank and this cold weather it gelled at the pick up?? or ice in the line?? its sitting outside again tontie in -6*c weather. see how it runs cranked up on the way to work in the morning....
ps, i drive 130kms round trip everyday..... and ONLY motocraft or international fuel/oil filters. does anyone have part numbers for a fuel guage system? i think its time to instal one!!! thanks guys
You can check out glowshift.com. They may work for you.
I just installed one in my 06 last week and was happy with the overall unit. The price was very attractive also. I think complete to my door it was like 56.00 bucks or so.
