Block Heater Short?

Hey all, Good Morning,

It seems my plug in has a short, I plug it it in and I can hear little short sounds the 1st time I noticed it, I kept playing w/ it to be sure I wasnt hearing things. It kept hearing it here and there, and as I kept fooling w/ it, It began to crackle then smoke! Ha! Ok! No More plugging it in Now!

The wires dont seem exposed, but what do ya think? most likely the short is right there at the plug or close?

I seen the post from a ways back on a nice Morinco plug in Think when I get a chance I look for one of those. But I got bigger fish to fry as you'll all see another post for another topic. Thanks for any help.

Most shorts happen at the plug end. I did the Marinco plug mod a couple of years ago and works fabulous. Here's my write up with pics and comments with each picture.

Block Heater Short?

To follow up on this, I am having a similar problem with my 05 F-350 6.0, but I am about 99% sure its not the wiring. I have a Marinco setup, that I extended to my rear bumper. I mounted the plug bracket to the side of the rest of my hitch wiring. (this was more convenient then going through the grill or having it at the front of the truck).
Anywho, if I ohm out the wiring (at the plug) with it connected to the heater, it shows it's shorted. When I unplug it however, it's good. Is it possible for there to be a short in the heater itself??
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Figures this happens now that its cold out.....

If you test thru the wires with the heater hooked up there will resistance, however it should not be infinite or the same reading as touching the test leads together. I believe you can also test one lead to the wire and the other lead to chassis should not have any reading on meter, after all this is 110 AC going thru these wires

Yeah, each lead to chassis, I have nothing.
Across them I have about 15 Ohms.
